Virtual Rehearsal and Simulation System for China's 60th National Day Parade
This project is to implement a virtual rehearsal sytem for China's 60th National Day Parade, whose two major purposes are: 1) validate the feasibility of designer's plan before rehearsal; 2) provide instructions and goals for training in the process of large-scale rehearsal. The system users are art designers, performance directors, and organizers. With the 3D Virtual Reality system, they can efficiently design the grand parade of 100,000 participants. The research highlight of this work is to apply geometry instancing and Level of Detail (LOD) to speed up crowd rendering and animation.
Besides this project, I independently developed an Augmented Reality system to facilitate crowd scene design out of my interest, which could be categorized to the second research project. For more details, please refer to the tangible AR project.
